Cultural manifestations in sports pages A study in light of the Function construction theory

Abstract

The press is one of the main building blocks of the societal structure, as it can maintain the balance and stability of society through the cultural content it publishes, and it can be one of the factors of dysfunction if that content is absent. Because the state press has an essential role in the cultural construction of society, the sports pages in it and through its cultural manifestations have be-come an important window that contributes to instilling sports and cognitive values and culture with the aim of improving the cultural knowledge system of the sports audience on the one hand, and in a way that reflects the image of the state on the other hand, as well as responding to the requirements and da-ta. era, which requires satisfying the growing needs of the public. The content analysis approach was present through monitoring the cultur-al appearances of the sports pages of Al-Sabah newspaper from 1/2/2022 to 1/31/2023. We have reached results that indicate the emergence of a relationship be-tween sports journalistic discourse and culture, through the sports pages con-solidating and strengthening the cultural, social, legal and educational value aspect of the receiving public for the purpose of forming and crystallizing a cumulative culture that contributes to qualitatively improving its cultural and cognitive awareness, as well as the emergence of features of the constructivist-functional theory through Cultural proposals for sports
