The Effect of Hypohydration on Selected Physiological Variables and Shooting Accuracy in Basketball Players

Abstract
The current research aims to identify the effect of fluid loss on certain physiological variables and shooting accuracy among basketball players. To achieve this objective, the researcher adopted an experimental approach with a single-group design. The research population and sample consisted of basketball players from Al-Rafidain Club in Diyala Governorate. The sample, comprised of six players, was selected purposively. The researcher then identified the physiological variables, which included heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, as well as shooting accuracy. The researcher designed a controlled physical activity program that simulated the demands of a basketball game in terms of intensity, repetition, duration, and movement type (intermittent exertion). After obtaining the results, the researcher used the SPSS statistical software. The researcher concluded that fluid loss during physical performance leads to clear physiological changes, namely an increase in heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, indicating an increase in cardiac load and thermal exertion. The researcher recommended the necessity of regular fluid replacement during training and matches at a rate of 150–250 ml of water every 15–20 minutes. Or sports drinks, depending on the intensity of the effort and the temperature.
