Abstract

This study aims to codify the Raven test for non-verbal intelligence on secondary school students in Damascus for the purpose of selecting athletes for sports teams. The sample consisted of (2300) male and female students from the secondary stage in Damascus, who were chosen in a simple random manner from the secondary schools in Damascus. The results indicated that the test has high stability indicators using the Alpha Cronbach coefficient. The results of persistence by midterm and segmentation were high, and internal correlations between items and the overall score were high. The results indicated the presence of statistically significant differences between the highest scores, and the lowest on this test. This indicates good discriminatory ability of the test items. In total, the results of the study demonstrated that the Raven test for non-verbal intelligence has acceptable psychometric properties. Preliminary criteria have been extracted for secondary school students, and thus the scale has become valid for use with secondary school students for the purpose of mathematical selection in the Syrian Arab Republic.
