Abstract

This study aimed to examine the role of occupational safety management and sports facility operation quality in enhancing students’ sports participation at the College of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Salahaddin University – Erbil. A descriptive survey method was employed, and a structured scale was developed to measure the study variables. Its validity and reliability were confirmed using internal consistency and Cronbach’s alpha, which indicated high reliability levels. The instrument was administered to a sample of 152 students, with 137 valid responses analyzed.

The findings revealed that the level of occupational safety management implementation was relatively high, while the quality of sports facility operations was rated as good. Students’ sports participation in both practical classes and extracurricular activities was also relatively high. Furthermore, correlation and regression analyses showed a significant positive relationship between occupational safety management, facility operation quality, and students’ sports participation, highlighting the importance of a safe and well-equipped sports environment.

The study concluded that improving occupational safety procedures and the quality of sports facility operations significantly enhances students’ sports participation. It recommends further research incorporating additional variables such as motivation and sports technology.
