The effect of Wheatley’s strategy on learning to perform the skills of serving and receiving in volleyball for students

Abstract

One of the first factors influencing the educational process that those in charge of the educational process aim to achieve is to bring students to an advanced state of skill performance, and applying any skill and mastering it correctly depends on a special strategy that is compatible with those skills. The research aims to identify the effect of Wheatley’s strategy in learning to perform The skills of serving and receiving with volleyball for students, and identifying the differences in learning to perform the skills of serving and receiving with volleyball for students between the experimental and control groups. The experimental approach was used in the style of two equal groups (experimental and control) with a pre- and post-test. The research population was determined by fifth grade science students in secondary school. Sinjar Boys School affiliated with the Babil Governorate Education Directorate for the academic year (2023-2024), numbering (38) students. The research sample was chosen as (24) students, divided equally into two experimental and control groups, The educational units were applied in accordance with Wheatley’s strategy for learning to perform the skills of serving and receiving in volleyball, amounting to (6) units, for a period of (6) weeks, at the rate of one educational unit per week, with a duration of (45) minutes, and the steps of Wheatley’s strategy were applied (educational tasks, cooperative groups, Participation) , The research came out with a set of conclusions, including: Wheatley’s strategy has a positive impact on learning to perform the skills of serving and receiving volleyball for students, and that applying the three stages of Wheatley’s strategy (educational tasks, cooperative groups, and participation) gave a broader understanding of the required skill , Among the recommendations that the researchers recommend are the following: using the Wheatley strategy in learning the technical performance of volleyball skills because it is one of the modern interactive strategies, and emphasizing the use of modern strategies in physical education lessons and moving away from the traditional methods and methods used.
