Psychological needs and their relationship to sports commitment for five-a-side football team players in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate

Abstract

The research goal is to:

- Identifying the needs for competence, belonging, and independence among the five a side football teams in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate

- Identifying the sports commitment of the five a side football teams in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate

- Identifying the relationship between psychological needs and sports commitment among five a side football teams in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate.

As for the research hypotheses:

• - There are statistically significant differences in the level of psychological needs (competence, belonging, and independence) among the five-a-side football teams in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate.

- There are statistically significant differences in the level of sports commitment among the five-a-side football teams in the second Rusafa Baghdad Education Directorate.

- There is a statistically significant correlation between psychological needs (competence, belonging, and independence) and sports commitment among the five-a-side football teams in the second Baghdad Rusafa Education Directorate.

As for the research community: As for the research population: it consisted of sports teams for five-a-side football in Baghdad, Baghdad, Al-Rusafa Secondary School, and their total number reached (84) players. The research sample consisted of (20) five-a-side football players in Al-Fursan Preparatory School for Boys. The psychological needs scale and the sports commitment scale were used. The results showed the following: - There is a statistically significant correlation between the psychological needs of competence, belonging, and independence and sports commitment among the research sample. There is also a direct relationship between the extent of satisfaction of psychological needs on the one hand and sports commitment on the other hand among the sample.

The recommendations came: Emphasizing attention and providing what would fulfill and satisfy the needs of the players by identifying the requirements of the needs of the sports teams according to their age level and motivating the students to participate effectively in sports performance and commitment.
